Ramirez Lennis Martinez: This Tournament is a real Challenge for me

Ramirez Lennis Martinez: This Tournament is a real Challenge for me

Ramirez Lennis Martinez started the Moscow Open tournament with two victories, and attracted our attention immediately. The chess player from distant Cuba answered the questions of the official website correspondent Eteri Kublashvili.

- Ramirez, why did you decide to come to Moscow and play in the RSSU Cup?
- I’ve received an invitation from the organizers and that’s why I’m here. It is a challenge for me to play against strong Russian players and I’m very glad to have this experience.

- Is it your first time here, in Moscow?
- Yes, it is.

- Did you have a chance to look around or was there no time for it?
- I managed to walk around and I like everything I saw here. I went to the Red Square, I was walking in the downtown and in the district I live in. Besides I managed to go skating.

- Please, describe in several words your three games here.
- The first two matches were not so much interesting, not very challenging because my opponents were lower-rated. I lost my third match against Artyom Timofeev and it was a good lesson for me as I learned that I shouldn’t play fast in a critical position.
I think I’ve got an advantage in the opening but later Black gained compensation and I reacted not in the best way. I tried to force the position but it was a wrong decision, so Timofeev won.

- What is the situation with the chess in Cuba?
- Now there is a good moment in the Cuban chess because we have a great number of strong grandmasters and also some new players are progressing and travelling around the world.
I’m a unique Cuban player of this tournament and this is a real engagement for me. I want to do a good job and leave a high-level impression by representing my Guantanamo University and my country.
