Address of RSSU Cup Moscow Open 2016 Director

January 25, 2016
Address of RSSU Cup Moscow Open 2016 Director

Dear friends!

It's been twelve years since RSSU has first begun to host chess players from all over the country and even abroad. We had planned to launch a regular national student and school children tournament but following the suggestion of the Moscow Chess Federation and with the help of Moskomsport it was decided to transform it into an international festival Moscow Open. And nowadays this festival annually gathers more than 1500 chess players. Thus, as of today we already have more then 2000 applications from the regions of Russia and 38 foreign countries!

As always, traditional RSSU Cup nominations are given to men, women, amateurs,  veterans, students, and school children. There will be a battle carried out in all these nominations for the entry to the following stages of prestigious chess competitions, including the Russian Cup among men and women, world championships among amateurs, veterans, tournament among school children.

A key element of the RSSU Cup-2016 will be a student tournament that will launch activity of a recently established Russian National Student Chess League (President - RSSU Rector N.B.Pochinok). In addition, for the first time a chess solving tournament has obtained a status of the World Chess Solving Championship for Juniors, and a coach seminar - a FIDE status.

Moreover, Guinness World Records took interest in our festival, and the programme will include the record breaking procedure in the nomination "The largest chess lesson".

The game conditions have been improved too: the main games will be held in the renovated event hall; spectators will be able to follow the games from the balcony and listen to the comments in the refreshment area.

And now some technical details.

1. I would like to remind you that the prize money will be transferred to personal accounts of prize winners. For this reason it is requested to pay attention and comply with all the prize payment requirements specified in the corresponding section of the Regulations.

2. A few words about a new student tournament. It will include the World Amateur Chess Championship, as a result, the Mandate Commission will pay close attention to the application data, request a student status certificate for participants of individual events and an application for team events.

3. Due to the Guinness World Records registration procedure the time of the blitz tournament among school children has been changed.
The procedure will be the following: on January 29 the opening and the first round of the school nominations of the festival will be held as planned, and the registration for participation in "The largest chess lesson" for the Guinness World Records will begin at 3.30pm. The lesson will take place in room No 300 from 4pm to 4.30pm. This will be followed by the blitz tournament registration, and the tournament itself will begin at 5pm.

4. The schedule for the World Chess Solving Championship among Juniors in 17-19 age group has seen some changes. The rounds will begin at 10.30am on February 1 and 2. Participant registration and entry fee payment period for the World Chess Solving Championship has been extended until January 31, 2016.

Wishing all the best of luck to all the participants of the RSSU Cup!
